Reviving traditions

With a thirst for creating a traditional community pub, the team behind the award winning Pig & Whistle Restaurant have taken on The Three Elms on Mashbury Road in Chignal St James with a regenerated country pub serving real ales, real ciders, great pub grub alongside community events in the countryside of north Chelmsford between Writtle and Broomfield.

Over the last 6 years Brendan Curran, originally from Waterford, Ireland has created a high end award winning restaurant at the 16th century Pig & Whistle in Chignal Smealy. Public houses are in Brendan’s blood so when he was looking for a new project, The Three Elms seemed the ideal challenge to create a community space where everyone is welcome.

Plans for the traditional public house include proper pub grub, rotated real ales and ciders, family friendly features and a range of comfortable furniture and fresh decor to suit everyone.

Brendan said, “I’m proud to revive The Three Elms into a traditional pub fit for today’s north Chelmsford community. We want to revive the four annual real ale and cider festivals as well as the community charity and music events and create a warm welcome for everyone, including four legged friends.”

The Three Elms reopened on Saturday 23 March 2019 to start a fresh new era for the traditional pubs of Chelmsford.
